For a make-up artist, the rhythms of the capital of fashion at certain periods can become really hectic. So coffee must always be at hand, which is why my favourite bars are very close to home.
My morning starts at Massimo Pica, a small patisserie with homemade pastries close to Lima tube station and Corso Buenos Aires. I generally opt for the classic Italian breakfast: cappuccino and whole wheat “brioche” (croissant) with honey. I'm always in a hurry, so I often eat at the counter, standing up, while I check the new fashion and make-up trends on Instagram. When I am off and have more time, I always ask them to fill a plain croissant with chanthilly cream for me. It feels like such a treat!
My afternoons are generally pretty hectic, but I always try and have a coffee break either on my own or with passing clients (don’t really know how to say this: basically, clients who are generally not in Milan but are that day) at my favourite specialty coffee bar: Orsonero Coffee, in via Broggi. Amazing selection of single origin coffees, like the Congo one I had yesterday from Gardelli Specialty Coffees
No matter how busy your day is, in Milan you always find the time for an aperitif. It's a kind of a must! To me, it’s not a real Milanese Aperitif if you don’t get an Aperol Spritz and a few pizza slices of different sorts. Best place to go? Pandenus in Porta Venezia district: relaxed atmosphere, wooden furniture and comfy red leather armchairs.
For an evening with friends, I recommend The Botanical Club in Isola district. They produce their own gin and have top level mixologists behind the counter. I'm an esthete by nature and professional deformation: a drink must be good, but also "beautiful" (or: look good). It is the attention to detail that fascinates me there: cocktails are not simple drinks, but unforgettable sensory experiences. They are served in glasses of different shapes and decorated on top with flowers, dried berries, cocoa nibs. Instagraming them is almost a must!
